Seeing And Doing

A poem.

What would happen if we
poured our energy into our
own actions, rather than
trying to control the actions
of others?

Maybe we’d do more.

Maybe we’d give more,
and dream more, and learn
more, and listen more,
and love more, and hold
more hope in the palms of
our hands.

Perhaps we’d sing more,
and create more, and dance
more, and laugh more, and
find a way to make magic
even when the day holds
cold and rain.

Maybe we’d see more.

Perhaps we’d see the story
behind the person — with
all the heartbreak, and the
heartache, and the dreams of
yesterday swirling around
with the ones of tomorrow.

Maybe we’d see how choosing
to spread words of goodness
and acts of kindness, cause
ripples effects of lasting change.

Perhaps the change we commit
to in bettering our own actions,
is the thing that makes others
want to be better, too.

Perhaps.
