The mystery behind growing up

Ever wondered about how you have developed the tendency to act in a certain way in a certain situation — Learning from Mark Manson

We all have some common actions under certain conditions.

What do you do when you see some hot stuff? Do you go and touch the thing? Do you try to stay away from the hot substance?

I bet your answer is the second one. You must be thinking that I am a fool for asking you such a question; this is so obvious. Ever wondered how this became obvious?

Because you have already burned yourself in your childhood by touching something hot, which has created a memory in your brain that tells you to back up on encountering anything hot.

The same goes for your actions in many other conditions, which you may recount now, just like you know if you steal food, you will get a scolding from your mom.

This is the way we have developed and cast most of our actions in our daily life. The habits that seem to reward us are the ones we stick to, and the ones that punish us are largely avoided by us.

Even today, this theory works with developing new habits; the ones that tend to reward us more are those we stick to more. For example, drinking a cup of coffee daily gives you a much-needed boost in the morning; thus, that boost is the reward.

At the same time, if the reward isn’t quick and big, we tend to ignore the work.

We will be jumping into the basics of developing habits as I will share my learnings from the book Atomic Habits soon.
