Does Journaling Help?

Journaling is not as ‘dear diary’ as it sounds. To me, it used to hold a very cliché concept of a teenager in their bedroom writing ‘dear diary’ a thousand times before locking the notebook with a…

Flow with Fall.

Can you feel it? The temps are dropping, V’s of geese are filling the sky, and a new school year has begun. It’s autumn!

As the world around us transforms before our eyes, I’m reminded that as much as we humans try to separate ourselves from nature with our concrete structures and air conditioning, we are a part of it. Instead of trying to maintain constancy and separation, let’s soften into the flow of this new season and embrace all of its benefits and joys.

Trees are a reminder to be grateful for what we have but not to become too attached. Although leaves are a very important part of their identity, deciduous trees release them all each year, trusting that in the future they can grow more. If this isn’t a great example of abundance mindset, I don’t know what is! Trees are a reminder to trust nature — and ourselves—that we will be taken care of and that future growth is not only possible but completely natural. By keeping around everything we’ve created so far, we don’t create space for anything new and wonderful to grow.

Take an hour, a day, a weekend, to celebrate what you have and let go of anything that you don’t need to carry into winter and the new year. Create space for new growth.

Be like a lung. You were probably really tracking with the tree example. Tree’s falling leaves are one of the first things that come to mind at this time of year. That and pumpkin spice lattes, of course. But lungs? Stay with me on this one…

Lungs bring into our bodies “pure chi (energy) from heaven”. They are also one of the best examples of a balanced ying-yang system in our body. We breathe in and then we breathe out. Constantly. Without thinking. Our entire lives. As the energy changes around us, we must take care to adjust to it and lungs are a simple, consistent way to bring in new fresh energy and let go of that which is old and no longer useful.

Take time to cozify your home. Snuggle up in freshly laundered sweaters and blankets to protect yourself from the chill outside. Now that we’re not constantly covered with summer’s sticky sweat, bring together close friends and family members and embrace them in big bear hugs. Switch from summer’s raw vegetable diets to warm soups and sautéed dishes. Join Goldilocks at breakfast with yummy porridge or oatmeal before taking a cozy nap.

She is on a mission to connect leaders to natural solutions by immersion in wilderness and inspiration from nature’s beauty.
