Our Human Condition

An inner calm dwells in my spirit
Completely in sync with what I see
Happiness, heartaches pulse within,
Triumphs, tragedies, both can come
Our human condition, life’s spectrum.

Joy written in new parents’ hearts
Seeing vibrant life produced by them
Joined ever closer by this new bond,
Sadness etched on survivors’ faces
When death has taken one, they love.

Determination from some brave spirits
Resisting suppression of people’s rights
Marching peacefully towards new freedom,
Defiance seen in strong powerful gestures
With authorities trying to stare them down.

Despair in people trying to make ends meet
Struggling daily just to feed their families
Unsure why circumstances are as they are,
Turmoil roils hearts of compassionate souls
Watching so many children lost in poverty.

Confusion reigns in soldiers fighting wars
Often unsure of who their enemy really is
Losing trust in ideals bringing them there,
Once proud patriots now gripped by fear
That they are fighting bloody endless wars.

Populaces fooled by selfish immoral leaders
Grasping power in authoritarian maneuvers,
Hoping problems solved by strongman means
While relinquishing freedoms they once had,
Future hopes, worthless dust of false promises.

Wise people know, real power lies within
Breasts and hearts of self-aware individuals
Willing to express their own innate free will,
Autocracies never bring dreams to fruition
Dictating own laws and what people must do.

Emotions, thoughts and changing perceptions
Continually moving dramas, our human condition.
