A Friend in Need is a Fuck Indeed Ch. 04

I had arranged to meet Amelia the following Tuesday in the university refectory. I was a little early and she didn’t notice me as I entered the hall. She was looking gorgeous, sat at a far table with…

Finding The Right Words For Your Story Became 10X Easier

A website that caters to all your ‘wordly’ needs

Writing has a lot to do with words; in fact, everything.

No matter how prodigious your thoughts are, how extensive your knowledge is, how vast your experience is, or how desirable your thoughts are, it all boils down to what words you choose to express them.

Words define a writer. Hence, choosing the right word becomes immensely important.

While some writers are gifted with an admirable vocabulary, some strive hard to hunt for that 'word' in their memory palace.

I am the second kind.

But, I do not want to play safe and limit myself to only simple words.

That and some more reasons I step out in search of words:

Come to these situations, I resort to this website:-

It is a land of plenty, I must say. And you are about to discover it.

Okay, this one does a multitude of things. But first, let me list some down for starters.

You may argue that synonyms, antonyms, and such can be easily handled by google/thesaurus too. So what's the big deal in this?

Well, patience, my dear friend.

Say you want an alternative for the word 'run fast.'

On the left is what you get on Google, and on the right is Wordhippo. If you notice, the latter has a lot more options to choose from.

It's my go-to place when I am searching for alternatives.

Take another example. Say a simple one- 'protect.'

This is what pops up.

Along with synonyms, it throws some idioms too!

How cool is that?

Idioms are such an excellent way to break the monotony. They are more like visual words, words with actions. 'To let the cat out of the bag', 'to bite the bullet', or 'to pull someone's leg' — you see things' happening'.

WordHippo throws back idioms you can use in your writings.

Say you originally planned to write:

Okay, I will admit I don't always get what I desire in this case. But, most times, I land up with something good.

Example: 'Looking forward to.'

Not only did I get alternate words for the phrase 'looking forward to' like 'yearning', 'hungering', and 'thirsting', but I also got a bunch of other phrases and idioms to choose from. For example:

'having a yen for', 'salivating for', 'aching for', or 'licking one's chops'!

My plain-jane sentence just went up by a couple of notches.

See what I mean?

And that would be like:

Say, for example, you want adjectives for 'thoughts.'

A thing to notice here is that it segregates the options according to the variance of the word's meaning/intensity. Hence, it becomes a lot easier to choose the most appropriate one.

Harebrained, wishy-washy, inward-looking, designless, chucklesome.

Impressive?

Similarly, one may hunt for adverbs for a verb, change the tenses, pluralize/singularize something, and find the noun form.

Help yourself and explore these options to appreciate the extent of their use.

This one might be of limited use, but I will toss it in since I am giving you the whole deal.

WordHippo also has the option to dig out new words for you. Like this:

You can cheat in Words with Friends using this- not that I am proposing.

Well, as you can see, a lot can be done here. But only if you find use in it.

Some might use the rhyming feature-for poetry. But, again, I am no connoisseur of that.

And yes, it just gets better and better.

That would be French, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch for you.

All the above features, in all these languages. Now, that's called spoiling.

Well, so, that's all for now.

I am hoping this helps you in your writing process. And sometimes, maybe, in the gaming process too!

I have been a massive fan of WordHippo and use it daily. It is a huge help to find words that fit better in my scheme of things and add more flavor to my writing.

Tell me how you liked it?

Happy writing!

If you liked this, I have good news. I can deliver more such stories to you directly! All you have to do is sign up here, and the stories will come to your inbox. Hot and fresh! Enjoy.
