Every time I go to drum studio, I learn something new about myself. When I played drum, the teacher told me that I was offbeat since I was thinking too much: keeping my finger position right with drum sticks, striking crash cymbals on the right beat etc.
“You’re a little irritated because you understand the piece but your body wouldn’t follow, right? Please stop thinking, listening to music, playing together with me.” We laughed a lot and talked a lot of stuff. She always encouraged me to get out of comfort zone and try something new without fear.
She also mentioned that I seem to have a talent in writing and writing will help express and organize my thoughts. She thought it would be very helpful for my writing to have various life experiences.
I used to think that I have to be good at something that I decide to do. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I aimed for speed, efficiency, perfection. But I’ve been trying to make changes for myself. Life is not about speed and efficiency. It is about happiness and meaning. I want my life to be colorful by giving it a shot at something that interests me. I’ll do that even thought it turns out not fit for me. I think my life will be more beautiful by doing something instead of regretting.
