They need us

A country that was established to provide a place to its people to live with freedom and provide them opportunities so that they can prosper. On its 73rd independence day, Pakistan is still very far away from its goal. But why?. The reasons are many, but the primary one is are Pakistanis getting a proper education. Education in Pakistan is considered a luxury that our lower middle class and lower class can only dream of; they are not willing to sacrifice. Students belonging to this class are not only pulled out of schools early but are forced to work in an age where they are supposed to play and go to schools. According to UNICEF, around 22.8 million children age 5–16 are unable to go to schools. That is 44% of the total population of children. How would a country prosper if they are unable to educate its younger generation?

I have met students from TCF that are so poor that even their parents are unwilling to send them to schools, although TCF does not charge any money. The children want to go to school, but circumstance and lack of awareness are halting their path to achieving what they deserve.

So, what can we do? Now if we look around our city Karachi, we can see a lot of young children working in mechanic shops, roadside hotels, and different kinds of places. We can start by educating them as they are easily approachable; also, the children from orphanages should be a part of it. It is not easy in our society to abolish child labor quickly; a very complex set of circumstances has made people force their children to work for them to earn a minimal amount of money. We can create a community in every specific area where child labor is abundant. Those who are educated around will try to aware of the children to pursue education and take a tiny amount of time like 2–3 hrs for three days to make them learn basic things.

We know that it is not easy to convince the people who these little angles work for. But this is one of our main goals. To make them realize how significant will be the impact of their contribution if they allow it. Initially, the plan is to establish 2–3 areas, and the teams will look for such places. A simple curriculum that should not be too hard will be developed by contacting experts in the field. The initial age group would be 5–10, but we are ready to accept who is willing to get enrolled by him/her self.

I have worked with an orphanage, and they let us taught their children basic language skills. They said that the students belonging to these classes need these kinds of things as without direction they waste their lives rather than trying to improve it.

A fellow of mine, who’s working on such kinds of projects says that the essential thing in these kinds of projects is to make people around these children aware of how important this is. Because a lot of times, children drop out because people around them consider it a waste of time. So awareness is vital. A team dedicated just to make such people aware is one of our main objectives.

So I am looking forward to it, the hurdles are there. But if we have to educate these beautiful minds, we have to tackle them. Let’s hope for the best.
