Kashmir calling

A place so mesmerizing that you want your eyes to soak it all and the time to be still. That’s Kashmir!!!

I fell in love with the beautiful snow-clad mountains from the time when our plane was about to land… It reminded me of painting we used to make when we were kids. Blue skies with a smattering of clouds, snow on the mountains, and some green trees with a blue, serene water body and some huts..

We had gone to kashmir for 3 action packed days. From the airport, we went directly to the tulip garden which I have heard is not as big as Keukenhof in Netherlands… but it still has its own charm and for me it was hugggeeeee. Each and every flower was a beauty. Dragging our feet, we reached Nishat garden where we had rented kashmiri clothes and taken pics as kashmiri girls. And later a friend saud, “Lets make a video in these clothes for insta reel.” At that time it was a cute idea.

But when I think back, I think I had truly lost my mind… I danced with my girl gang to the “bhumroo bhumroo” song .

Anyway, it was evening and we were getting late for our shikara ride in dal lake. Our driver quickly dropped us at the point where our shikara guy was waiting. I must say I am taken aback by the hospitality of kashmiri people. Our guide didnt even wince once or get upset when we kept making changes to our itinerary. He and his team were ready to bid our wishes.

We 6 didnt want to split ourselves. So we squeezed in one shikara. In dal lake, on shikara with a sunset background — it was heavenly. Just picture perfect. We took a long scenic round around Dal lake with other shikaras coming to offer us delicious kehwa, eclectic jewellery, even kebabs on the go.

Finally, our shikara guy dropped us at our houseboat- “Prince of Kashmir”. We had heard the houseboats were run down, but this was a newly renovated one and a very cute one. We were running from one room to another like small, happy kids. It was like a treasure. Cozy little rooms, with luxurious carpets, wood carvings on the walls and delicious kehwa. After dinner, though, we were all very tired, yet so excited that we couldn’t go to sleep. But, we slept finally just so that we could get up early to soak in the beautiful morning sunrise.
