Work Ethic

I am a cashier at a well known hardware store. I have had this position for about five months now, and frankly I don’t enjoy it. However, I show up on time and will stay over when needed. The one thing I don’t do mainly because I forget and because I honestly don’t think it’s beneficial or helpful is this “University” thing. It’s a daily little quiz that I have zero interest in. It is on topics such as costumer service and occasionally safety. I get that safety is important however, much of the questions are either not related to my department so I don’t know them or lastly are are the kind where realistically there is no right answer, however there is “the” answer. All the questions relating to customer service tend to be this way.

There is this expectation to perform the same way in each unique scenario. I don’t see how this is possible, at least not for me. Now there’s difference between being consistent and handling similar but still unique situations differently. I understand that I generally need to perform the same tasks with the same efficiency and so on. All in all, I do try.

Yet apparently showing up to work on time isn’t a good work ethic, nor is staying over. But randomly guessing some questions on a quiz is?

Yes, I can do the quiz but if my presence if my willingness to stay over if my open availability isn’t valued, then I’m doing that damn quiz everyday.

I’ll only do it when I’m told to.
